Motorized boats are welcome, but remember to have them inspected for aquatic nuisance species at the boat ramp and ensure you have a current registration (from any state) and a Colorado Parks & Wildlife ANS stamp. Be mindful of the designated wakeless hours, when only non-motorized vessels are permitted.
These wakeless periods provide a serene experience for kayakers and paddleboarders, while other times allow for exhilarating waterskiing and wakeboarding. Fueling of boats is only permitted at the entrance to the park, and vehicles towing boats must undergo inspection and possible decontamination.

Fishing
Lake Nighthorse is an angler’s paradise, stocked with rainbow trout, brown trout, and—uniquely for Colorado—kokanee salmon. It’s one of the few places in the state where you can reel in this prized catch.
Anglers 16 years and older need a valid Colorado Parks and Wildlife fishing license. Before casting your line, review the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Fishing Brochure for regulations and bait restrictions.
Remember the bag limits: 4 trout per day and 8 in possession (no size limit restrictions), and 10 kokanee salmon per day and 10 in possession. Fishing is prohibited in areas with posted signs, and fish entrails must be disposed of in trash receptacles.
No “early bird gets the worm” type fishers out here, but plenty of rainbow trout and the occasional brown trout or salmon are waiting to be caught!
Swimming
Cool off with a refreshing swim in the designated swim area, complete with a sandy beach. Remember that no shoes are allowed in the swimming area.
For an adrenaline rush, head to the Wibit Aqua Park, a floating inflatable playground featuring slides, climbing walls, and other exciting obstacles. Life jackets are required for all Wibit users, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Complimentary life jackets are available.
Hiking

The Lake Nighthorse Trail is a popular choice, a 2.3-mile out-and-back gravel trail suitable for all skill levels.
