A-Basin | The Beach & Gaper Day
Updated for the 23/24 season!
Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, located in Summit County, Colorado, is known for its unique and laid-back atmosphere. Unlike the more commercial ski resorts in the state, Arapahoe Basin offers a more relaxed and enjoyable experience for skiers and snowboarders.
It was founded in 1946 by a group of investors who wanted to create a ski area that would be accessible to people living in the Denver metro area. The ski area opened with just one lift and a handful of runs, but it quickly gained popularity due to its high-quality terrain and consistently good snow conditions.
One you will quickly notice that sets Arapahoe Basin apart from other ski resorts is the number of dogs that people bring with them. The resort is dog-friendly, and visitors are often seen walking their furry friends around the base area and even taking them on the slopes. This is a great way for people to spend quality time with their pets while enjoying the great outdoors.
Another aspect of Arapahoe Basin that adds to its relaxed vibe is the practice of grilling in the parking lot. During mid-day breaks, visitors can be seen firing up their grills, cooking up burgers and hot dogs, and socializing with each other. This creates a fun and lively atmosphere, and adds to the overall enjoyment of the ski day. These are typically held in the lower lot with the best spots needing reservations called “The Beach”.
The Beach
The Beach is known for its lively atmosphere. Skiers can be seen playing games, grilling food, and having impromptu parties. With its relaxed and fun-loving vibe, The Beach is a great place to spend time with friends, make new ones, and enjoy the ski day.
Another unique feature of The Beach is its location near the bottom of the ski runs. This means that skiers and snowboarders can easily take a break from the slopes, grab a bite to eat, and then get back to skiing with minimal effort. This is a great way to recharge and enjoy the day without having to waste time getting to and from the base area.
Reservations are NOW OPEN. To reserve your spot you need to place a down payment for your spot on the A-Basin website. It $200 and refundable if you cancel more than 2 weeks out.
